Primary and secondary education, national and international

Rijnlands Lyceum foundation offers primary and secondary education in the Leiden and the The Hague area. The foundation encompasses five schools for secondary education and three schools for primary education. With more than 7400 pupils and 1100 staff we are a medium-sized educational institute.

The first Rijnlands Lyceum in Wassenaar was founded in 1936 by a number of Leiden University professors who wanted to improve the existing educational offer for their children. Their initiative proved to be successful. In addition to the original location in Wassenaar, schools were founded in Oegstgeest (1956) and Sassenheim (1972). Since 1991 the International School of The Hague has been part of the foundation. In 2011 the Eerste Nederlandse Montessori School joined the organisation and in 2012 the European School The Hague Rijnlands Lyceum was founded.

The three schools in Wassenaar, Oegstgeest and Sassenheim offer programmes ranging from junior secondary to university qualifying (grammar school). Traditionally Rijnlands also offers international programmes, including bilingual programs. Rijnlands Lyceum Oegstgeest International Schools offers the MYP and IB programmes, Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar International Schools offers the MYP. the International School of The Hague offers the IPC, MYP and IB programmes and the European School The Hague offers the primary and secondary curriculum of the European Baccalaureate.

2016 was a very special year. It was the 80th anniversary of our foundation and the 100th anniversary of the Eerste Nederlandse Montessori School. The Rijnlands schools still feel fully committed to the ambitions of more than 80 years ago: offering quality education to those who want more than the standard offer. The international dimension has always been one of the main, distinguishing features and “international mindedness” has always been one of the most important core values.
